Regional Cortical Blood Flow
نویسندگان
چکیده
We conducted regional cortical blood flow studies using the xenon-133 clearance technique on 12 volunteers during the administration of 25% and 50% N2O and during baseline conditions (breathing room air or 100% O2). Global cortical blood flow was very highly significantly increased above baseline measures in all subjects by 50% N2O (mean increase 37% above 100% O2 condition). A smaller but still significant increase was observed with 25% N2O. Analysis of regional cortical blood flow revealed heterogeneity in the pattern of changes; that is, the baseline pattern was altered by the inhalation of N2O, most often resulting in an accentuation of relative frontal blood flow. The anterior-posterior gradient in N2O-induced blood flow changes differs from that observed with simple vasodilatory agents, such as CO2, with which the increase is purely systemic and the baseline pattern is preserved. This indicates that N2O has differential effects on cerebral metabolism that may well reflect the typical alterations in experiential state reported by subjects. (Stroke 1990;21:1293-1298)

Role of Nitric Oxide and ATP-Sensitive K+ Channels in Regulation of Basal Blood Flow and Hypercapnic Vasodilatation of Cerebral Blood Vessels in Rabbit
Background: The mechanisms underlying cerebral hypercapnic vasodilatation are not fully understood. Objective: To investigate the role of nitric oxide (NO) and ATP-sensitive potassium (KATP) channels in basal blood flow regulation and hypercapnia-induced vasodilatation in rabbit cerebral blood vessels. Methods: The change in cerebral blood flow was measured by a laser Doppler flowmeter in 18 Ne...
متن کاملComparative studies of regional CNS blood flow and evoked potentials in the cat. Effects of hypotensive ischemia on somatosensory evoked potentials in cerebral cortex and spinal cord.
Functional resistance to graded hypotensive ischemia of various segments of the somatosensory pathway was determined in anesthetized cats by repeated concurrent recordings of regional blood flow measured by hydrogen clearance, and evoked potentials (EPs), of dorsal horn of lumbar spinal cord and cerebral cortex. During normal resting CNS blood flow (CBF), there were significant successive reduc...
متن کاملAltered cerebral hemodyamics and cortical thinning in asymptomatic carotid artery stenosis
Cortical thinning is a potentially important biomarker, but the pathophysiology in cerebrovascular disease is unknown. We investigated the association between regional cortical blood flow and regional cortical thickness in patients with asymptomatic unilateral high-grade internal carotid artery disease without stroke. Twenty-nine patients underwent high resolution anatomical and single-delay, p...
متن کاملRegional cerebral blood flow changes in motor cortical areas after transient anesthesia of the forearm.
To study the effect of deafferentation on cortical areas activated by movement of the proximal muscles, we measured regional cerebral blood flow with positron emission tomography and 15O-labeled water. Flexion-extension movements of the right elbow before deafferentation were associated with an increase of regional cerebral blood flow in the primary sensorimotor area bilaterally, posterior supp...
